A clothing conundrum

I went out shopping today for some new shoes for R, and while I was out I tried on some clothes for my self (of course). You see, having been a student my whole life, I've never had to develop a professional wardrobe. Seeing as I'm going to be teaching in the fairly near future, I've been trying to build up a wardrobe of clothing nice enough for school, clothes that don't expose my stomach if I raise my hand. I was able to buy a shirt today, but, as usual, my problem with pants kept me from getting anything for my bottom half. I believe I may have mentioned my pants issues before, but I really am in some sort of pants limbo. On the one hand, I can't get the juniors trousers, as they are way too low cut and generally don't fit me that well anyway. On the other hand, I can't stand pants that come up to my belly button, which is how nearly all women's pants are cut. I know my inability to wear normal trousers is just exacerbating the belly-peek issue, but I just can't do it. Does anyone know of a store/brand/style that would be somewhere in between the super-low and the belly button height pants? I would really appreciate it.

i've always been a huge fan of express pants, with gap as a close second. of course, for me, that's because both of them have pants in size "long," which i need for my freakishly long legs. and yeah, with all the weight i've lost, i should probably by some new pants soon, too.

(oh, and p.s. in that link about your trouser tragedy, i would like to take exception to your slandering the good name of english teachers. we are NOT hoochies! ... well, most of us aren't...)

Lol. I'm just kidding (mostly) about the jab at the english teachers. The problem in my program is that the first class also fulfills an undergraduate writing requirement, so there are lots of non-teachers taking the class. Anyone who isn't a science or math major is stuck in the English section, so the person who was getting us all in trouble was most likely some random undergrad.

If you're careful about what style you order, I've found Land's End pants to be worthwhile. They do have some of the belly-button "mom jeans", but also some reasonably fashionable styles. Also, you don't have to go to the store!!!

I really like J.Crew pants. They usually fit a person with a waist and a booty. And they are made for young adults, not moms or teenagers. Plus, they do in store alterations if they're needed.
